12.03.04 - SONFEST 2004: MUD, MUSIC & MORE MUD!

Held at Boonah High School and Showgrounds, the grounds looked like a cattle yard, especially the camping ground which wasn't at all surprising as it is one at times.

In stark contrast to Sonfest 2003, which was more of a Dustfest, Boonah's nine-year drought (their dams contained less than 2% of their capacity) broke just in time to turn Sonfest 2004 into Mudfest. Gumboots or bare feet (even flippers wouldn't have gone astray) were the appropriate footwear for the occasion (see photo taken by Bill Curnow).

On the second day of Sonfest, Saturday 17th January, 6across drove up from Brisbane and waded through the mud to get to the Festival Village Stage and performed five of their songs: old favourites 'The Rock', 'Just Keep Walking' and 'Pieces That Didn't Fit', as well as newie 'Roll On Like A River' (complete with new audience participation section and actions) and new favourite 'Wind Blows In The Windows' (with Anthony abandoning the drums in favour of the guitar).

Possible Mudfest 2004 names for the songs could have been... 'Mud Rock', 'Just Keep Wading', 'Pieces That Didn't Fit Coz They Were Too Darn Muddy', 'Ooze On Like A Mudslide' and 'The Smell of Mud Blows In The Windows'. If you can think of some better names, let us know.

All in all it was a fun outing and one that won't soon be forgotten, partly because we're still getting the mud off our shoes.

Weide and Geoff
