Born:
1974
Favourite colour: Blue
Favourite food: Fruit in ice-cream, pizza,
chocolate (especially home-made Rocky Road),
tandouri chicken & naan.
Favourite song: 'The Boxer' by Simon &
Garfunkel.
Favourite movie: 'A Mighty Wind'. I own the CD, DVD & 2 movie posters. It came out
in 2003 and is a
fictional documentary based around folk music & musicians that never really existed. It is, of course, a comedy and has the best songs in it - one of which, 'Kiss At The End Of The
Rainbow', was nominated for an Academy Award
(but was unfortunately beaten by the theme song for 'The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The
King'). The fictional duo from 'A Mighty Wind', Mitch & Mickey, even performed 'KATEOTR' live at the Academy Awards which was great to see!
Favourite item of clothing you own: My mustard tweed jacket. It's a
cracker! Pity I can't find it :(
Worst habit: Being late. I'm always trying to do
a few more things before whatever it is I'm supposed to
be at or doing next. We were playing a 7am gig
a few years ago at the Australian Gospel Music Festival
and 7am came around and we weren't on the stage - we
were running from the car with our gear. As we were
running my phone
rang. It was a friends who had woken up early
to see us who was ready to go back to bed if we weren't
going to play But before anyone could say,
"They're not coming," we burst through the doors and were literally plugged in
and playing within a couple of minutes. We played one
song less then we were going to but it was a great gig
and everyone went away glad they'd gotten up so darn
early. That all said, we are never normally late for
gigs.
Hobbies: Collecting pumpkins (not real ones). I have a growing collection including a
couple of plush toys which
I'm very proud of. I'm always on the lookout for a good
one.
Favourite sports to play: Cricket, squash, table tennis,
touch football and darts.
Favourite things to do in my spare time: Spending time with family & friends, writing songs, working on projects, talking about Jesus & the Bible,
drawing, enjoying life and its many oddities.
Favourite 6across song: 'The Only Way Is Home'.
Funniest moment on stage: Performing at Paradox's CD launch. It was at night and just as we started
our set all the lights went out. We played all our songs in pitch black darkness. As we were about to sing/play the last line of our final song 'Homely Ghost' all the lights came back on. It was
almost like we did it on purpose for effect & to make
a big rock ending. It was very funny.
Most embarrassing moment on stage: Stopping half way through 'Homely Ghost'
at a Brisbane church because my guitar's pick-up was making this
awful crackling noise. It was out of courtesy to the audience of course, but I felt pretty silly.
I've had my pick-up fixed since then.
Loudest crowd: Sonfest 2002. We had a 'Loudest Cheering Fan' competition between 2 songs which was almost deafening in the hall. The hall was pretty full before then but
jam-packed by the time we finished our
set.
Worst performance: Without a doubt it would be my
solo set at Forest Edge Festival (2003) in Victoria. For once I was
quite nervous and wore my voice out in the first couple
of songs. I managed to get through the rest of the songs
OK but I wasn't happy with how I sang. I was told
afterwards that it was really good so hopefully it
wasn't too bad.
Reason for being in 6across: It's what I believe
I am called to do. I love music - writing, arranging,
rehearsing &
performing - especially putting Scripture to music. I
love telling people about God and His amazing love for
us - music being a wonderful way to do that. I really
enjoy going to new places and meeting new people, as
well as meeting people I've already met. I love the
band because everyone in it is great and a lot of fun.
Before I get too old: Release a dozen CDs, see all my favourite bands
in concert and tour the world.
In 10 years: Still walking obediently
with Jesus, whatever that brings. It's been
exceedingly worthwhile being a Christian so far and I
expect things to just keep getting better and better.
God is good :) |
