6across formed in December 2002 when Anthony Edwards joined what was previously the
Geoff Rankin Band. The first Geoff Rankin
Band performance was at
Eternity:
The Concert on Sat 29 April 2000.
The name "6across" was first publicly announced at
the Kangaroo Point March Fair
(Brisbane) on Sat 01 Mar 2003 although we didn't
officially launch the band - new name, new songs, new
singer - until Australian Gospel Music Festival (AGMF) on Sat 19 Apr 2003. Geoff had
until then been lead vocalist and Renata had played
cello.
Quite a few years ago Anthony's old band Wildfire were the only
support band chosen to play at Brisbane's The Roxy (now
called The Arena), before
legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen.
Renata has a Bachelor Of Theology.
Anthony won his Year 10 100m Sprint Final.
Geoff won his Year 1 Egg & Spoon Final as well as
his Year 12 Thong Throwing Competition. In Year 12 he
also won the school's only story writing competition
being awarded (during full school assembly) first,
second & third prizes after no one else entered. He
also won AGMF 2004's Fastest Footy Pass Competition for
the 25-29 age bracket (62km/h).
At one church fete, Geoff announced a dancing competition
during the second last song where the 2 prizes up for
grabs were one red and one green jellybean to the best 2
dancers. Needless to say it was hotly
contested - maybe because the band were being followed by a
female dance group who were warming up at the side of
the stage.
Geoff Rankin Band once played a show of
Australiana songs ie 'Click Go The Shears' under
the moniker Geoff Rankin & His Wild Colonial Band.
During their second show @ AGMF 2001, the band debuted
their popular audience participation song 'The Farmyard
Animals' which was recorded and can be downloaded from this
location. It has proved to be a hit every time it
has been played.
